Concerto
current mood: happy
Ok, the Dresden Dolls has got to be one of the best concerts I've been to. They were fucking awesome, as were the opening acts.
The first act was Meow Meow ( ), who I can only describe as a performance artist (of the non-pretentious vein)/drunk lounge singer. She was hilarious, and did a hilarious crowd surf, with one strap off her dress to "make it more dangerous". Had a hell of a voice and a keen sense of humor.
After that, the Lexington High School drama troupe (so cool) did an odd little skit. I could totally imagine you Prouty theater kids doing something similar.
Next was Luminescent Orchestrii, a quartet from Brooklyn who played a bunch of modified European folk tunes on fiddles, a zydeco style guitar, and a single bass. Very entertaining, different music.
The Dolls were, well, amazing. Amanda had a cold, but you couldn't tell from her singing and dancing at the piano.
Plus, they covered a song from Cabaret, as well as Fight for Your Right to Party and Two-Headed Boy. ( Full set list. )
The crowd was one of the coolest bits- it was a really diverse crowd, which I was not expecting! The couple behind us were well into their forties, and we saw some really cool older (think 70's+) in the crowd. Who didn't leave when the acts began. So nifty! There were people dressed up, a guy who looked like Mr. St-Jean in red suspenders with a book, and more than a couple families.
But yeah, I'd recommend seeing the Dresden Dolls in concert, if you get a chance. The tickets are pretty cheap, and it is extremely entertaining.
